Environmental degradation risk by water erosion in a water producer Colombian Andes basin

چکیده

ABSTRACT Globally, soil degradation by water erosion has become one of the major environmental problems in tropical regions, especially under severe conditions Andes. This study aims to detail risk a producer basin located Tropical Colombian Andes (Combeima River basin), applying RUSLE model, discussing how minimize processes its (steep slope, climatic variability, classes and properties diversity, alternative land uses). was applied with support GIS estimate current potential basin, allowing identification areas more prone degradation. It found that currently, 50.5% basin’s area presents, on average, annual losses greater than 25 Mg ha-1 yr-1, meaning very high erosion, 30.4% showing (> 100 yr-1). possible conclude uses management systems have not been effective mitigating mainly when situated steep topography. Therefore, it is necessary sustainable planning for conservation soil, water, organic carbon, plant nutrients, other elements (not-nutrients) this region.

Investigation on Environmental Factors Influencing Water Erosion (case study:Taleghan basin, Varkesh subbasin)

The purpose of current study is to investigate the effects of some of environmental factors on erosion value, to find the most important governing factors and the relation between erosion of working units and environmental factors (soil characteristics, slope, aspect, elevation, lithology, geomorphology faces and vegetation cover percentage). Working units map was prepared using geomorphology...

Watershed Management and Adaptation to Environmental Change: A Case Study of Water User Associations in the Colombian Andes

This study explores how Water User Associations in the rural Andes of Colombia adapt to degradation of their water sources. In the Andean region of South America, understanding local governance is particularly important for water management as many rural communities receive minimal government support and the communities themselves must decide if and how they will protect their watersheds and di...

A model-based integrated assessment of land degradation by water erosion in a valuable Spanish rangeland

This paper presents an integrated assessment model aimed at evaluating land degradation by water erosion in dehesa rangelands in the Iberian Peninsula. The model is built following the system dynamics approach. The degradation risk is likened to the probability of losing a certain amount of soil within a number of years, as estimated over a great number of stochastic simulations. Complementary ...

Climate Change and Degradation of Surface Water: Mikkes Basin (morocco)

The Mikkes basin is located at the north centre of Morocco. The yearly approach of the P<2T ratio reveals a very bad monthly distribution of precipitations and a seasonal drought which is apparently observed well after the Eighties era. The extent of the drought can be shown clearly by the strong deficit of the river between the periods 1970-1979 and 1980-2000 which is considerable with around ...
